Met Office verdict on when heatwave will come to an abrupt end

Met Office verdict on when heatwave will come to an abrupt end

The mercury has risen to 30C in some parts of the country over the last fortnight, leaving Brits basking in sunshine. But with a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms set for tomorrow, it looks like the heatwave could be coming to an abrupt end.

The Met Office has now given its verdict on when the warm temperatures will give way to cooler air – and it’s sooner than you think. Sunseekers have been enjoying balmy weather so far this weekend with temperatures hitting 25C in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

In fact, some parts of the UK are covered by a yellow heat-health alert from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office. It means people should check on the elderly and anyone with health conditions, with the NHS potentially under extra pressure.

The heat alert runs all weekend until 9am on Monday. But forecasters have said a change is coming.

From Monday, temperatures are expected to drop and will be close to the average for this time of year. There will be a ‘much fresher feel’ during the first part of the week, the Met Office has said.

This weekend will be ‘very hot and very humid’, with the weather feeling ‘sticky’, forecaster Jonathan Vautrey said. But temperatures are expected to fall significantly on Monday, getting to the early 20s for most areas.
