Met Office weather verdict as North West to be 21C – but there’s a catch
It’s going to be another sunny day on Sunday following on from a glorious start to the weekend.
Saturday saw the Met Office record the hottest day of the year so far, with the other half of the weekend not too far behind. And the North West looks set to be luckiest across the country, with highs of 21C expected.
Nationally, temperatures are expected to peak at around 3pm and then cool off as the evening approaches. Manchester will be the warmest place in the country.

Lancashire wont be too far behind, with Preston set for 18C, Blackburn will get highs of 19C, and Blackpool 16C. The Lancaster area can expect highs of 18C. Unlike the national forecast, Lancashire’s warmest hours are expected to be between 5pm and 8pm.
Most of England’s largest cities were expected to see 20C, including London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Southampton, and Plymouth. South Wales and South West England will reach 21C, with Scotland a little cooler at 11C.
Despite the sunshine, rain could appear in most regions. But it’s most likely to fall in the middle of Scotland, as well as the north of England. The Midlands could expect to see some rain at about 4pm, reaching Northern Ireland shortly afterward.
Going forward and into June, temperatures are only expected to rise with the country set to consistently top the 25C mark.
Met Office forecast May 21 to May 25:
Today: Feeling cool under persistent cloud in Scotland and Northern Ireland with patchy, mostly light, rain. Brighter for the Northern and Western Isles. Warm sunny spells for England and Wales, and remaining dry. Breezy along east coasts of England.
Tonight: Rain and drizzle gradually easing but a dry night for most. Turning chilly under clear skies in northwest Scotland, Wales and northern England. Patchy low cloud pushing into eastern England.
Monday: Low cloud and fog quickly clearing. A few showery outbreaks moving across Scotland, northern England and Wales. Otherwise, a fine and dry day with warm sunny spells for most.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: A largely settled period with further warm sunny spells. Cloudier in the northwest on Wednesday with patchy rain. Chilly overnight with some fog patches but these burning back by day.
