MK Dons have announced the signing of two new goalkeepers as Craig MacGillivray and Nathan Harness have joined the club.

The Dons announced the duo as their third and fourth new signings ahead of the upcoming season.

MacGillivray will join MK Dons on a free transfer after being released by Burton Albion, while Harness will move after leaving Charlton Athletic, making him the second to move from Charlton to MK Dons this summer after the previously announced move of Alex Gilbey.

The club see MK Dons move to replenish their goalkeeper area, having seen Jamie Cumming return to Chelsea after an 18 month loan while Franco Ravizzoli and David Martin were both let go at the end of the campaign.

The arrival of 30-year-old custodian MacGillivray comes just over a month after he played against MK Dons for Burton Albion on the final day of last season, with that match being the goalkeeper’s last appearance for the Brewers.

Born in Scotland, the goalkeeper previously made over 130 appearances for Portsmouth in a 3-year spell after joining the club from Shrewsbury Town. After an 18-month run with Charlton Athletic, he joined Burton Albion.

In an interview with iFollow MK Dons, MacGillivray said, “I’m delighted to be here. It’s been in the pipeline for a number of weeks so I’m glad to get it signed and I can’t wait to start.

“Every time I’ve come here in the past and played, it’s somewhere I remember. The Club, in recent years, have had success and that’s ultimately what everyone wants to get back to – I want to play my part in helping the Club get out of this division.

“I know what I’m capable of as a goalkeeper and I know what I can add to this current squad. Hopefully I can bring all of that here and help the manager and the Club get to where it wants to get to.”

Earlier in the day on Tuesday (20/06), MK Dons announced the signing of Harness, who is chronologically their third announced signing of the summer.

Harness, 23, moves after a 4 year association with Charlton, having joined from Dunstable Town in 2019, and will again be in the squad with MacGillivray, having also been in Charlton’s goalkeeper pool.

The goalkeeper made all bar one of his appearances for the Charlton first team in the EFL Trophy, including one against MK Dons in 2022.

In addition, he has enjoyed time out on loan with Billericay Town, Welling United, Dulwich Hamlet and Bromley.

In his own arrival interview, Harness said, “When I first heard of the interest, it stood out to me so I couldn’t wait to get the deal done and become a Dons player.

“I’m a goalkeeper who, first and foremost, likes to keep the ball out of the net. I also like to think of myself as brave and I’m happy to fly at people’s feet when needed. Ultimately, I’m a player who wears my heart on my sleeve and will give my all for three points.

“I’ve had some brilliant conversations with the Gaffer and his staff about their plans for this season and I just can’t wait to get started.”
