Multiple Championship clubs set to offer terms to Billy Sharp – Report

Sheffield United released skipper Billy Sharp is wanted by a number of clubs as he prepares to officially depart the club.

Sharp was one of the players to be released by United when the club put out its retained list earlier this month.

Since then, Paul Heckingbottom has admitted he’d have liked to have kept Sharp around but the decision, effectively, was taken out of his hands.

Enda Stevens and Kyron Gordon were also released, along with long-term injury victim Jack O’Connell.

However, it looks like Sharp won’t be having any trouble finding a new club, with claims a number of Championship clubs, including Rotherham, are keen.

Billy Sharp wanted by Championship clubs

According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Rotherham United have registered an early interest in taking Sharp.

However, the Millers won’t have it easy and McGrath claims there are a number of Championship clubs lining up to declare their interest to Sharp.

The experienced striker spoke at the end of last season about his future. Sharp believes he has years left in the tank and given his record at Championship level, will be hopeful of a decent move.

A move to Rotherham could appeal thanks to the locality. However, with a competitive Championship next season, a number of clubs are likely to value Sharp’s experience and goal output.

Sheff U News View: Good to see

None of us wanted to see Sharp dip down the leagues and end up in League One or Two. While it might have been the right time to leave Bramall Lane, Sharp still has something to offer.

A move to Rotherham would certainly be interesting. The Millers won’t be able to offer the money of others but it might just suit what Sharp is looking for right now.

Of course, he’s also a man who likes to challenge himself. With that in mind, if a move higher up the table comes along, you can bet your bottom dollar that Sharp will want to test the waters.

Either way, it’s good to see the ‘skip’ have some options on the table. If ever a career deserved one more crack at the Championship, it’s the Blades legend.
