Mum scared to leave house for three years after new teeth broke off days later
A mum was left too scared to leave the house after £1,699 tooth veneers started breaking off in her mouth days later and she couldn’t afford another costly bill to put them right.
Jade Simmons had no choice but to leave her teeth to deteriorate and it was another three years before she finally decided she had to get something done. She then flew out to Turkey and spent another £4,100 on restoring her smile and her confidence.
Jade told the Manchester Evening News the first set of veneers was done at a clinic in London after she saw an advert on Facebook. But the mum-of-three’s new teeth began falling off in her mouth just days later.

Jade, 37, from Stockport, explained: “I was scared to eat food. Every time I heard a crack I instantly knew what it was and would burst into tears. I was too embarrassed to leave the house, I even started to avoid my own family because I was scared they would judge me for how bad they’d got.”
After months of trying to resolve the issue with the London clinic, Jade went to her local dentist but they were reluctant to do any work due to the extent of the damage. She was told she had three fractured teeth and a nerve that was severely damaged and required an urgent root canal – but she didn’t have the cash to get it all fixed.
So she left them crumbling for the next three years. It took a toll on her mental health, she says: “I was severely depressed and prior to this nightmare I already suffered with bipolar, so it massively affected my mental health. I didn’t want to leave the house; I wore a mask at work to keep my mouth covered at all times and I even avoided seeing my own mum out of anxiety and embarrassment.”
But eventually, she decided enough was enough and put an emotional video on TikTok. It was viewed more than 500,000 times and, as a result, Jade was contacted by a clinic in Turkey.
At first reluctant because of the horror stories about ‘Turkey teeth’, she was reassured by a video tour and speaking to some of their other UK patients as well as the dentist who would do the work.
So Jade flew out to Your Smile Turkey (YST) clinic where her teeth were put right. The bill was £4,100, but she says having the same treatment in the UK would cost around £22,000. Now she says she finally has her confidence back.
“It’s honestly changed my life,” she said. “I’m still having to train myself to smile again and remind myself that I no longer have horrendous teeth. I speak to people now and feel more confident, but it’s a slow process.
“People used to think my teeth were bad from taking drugs and my own daughter said I looked like I’d been chewing rocks. I lost myself for a couple of years. Learning to speak properly again has been hard as the damage to my teeth also affected my speech quite badly.”
She added: “Having my teeth done in Turkey was the best decision of my life, the clinic have done such a good job. You hear so many horror stories about Turkey teeth, but like any country there’s good and bad dentists.”
