Newsboy’s horseracing tips for Friday’s six meetings, including Nap for York

Newsboy expects his nap, Westernesse, to win at York and also fancies International Girl to score on the same card and complete his Daily Double

WESTERNESSE should thrive for a first attempt at a mile and a quarter when he faces nine opponents for the Andy Thornton Hospitality Furniture Apprentice Handicap (1.50) at York on Friday.

Having failed to find the target in eight attempts for Dermot Weld, the son of Camelot crossed the Irish Sea to join David O’Meara.

Having marked his first two starts for the yard with podium finishes at Wetherby and Hamilton Park – Westernesse went off favourite on both occasions – my selection made it third time lucky for his new connections with a success at Pontefract at the end of last month.

The way Westernesse lengthened away to beat Garden Oasis by a length and a quarter suggested the step up from a mile will trigger another personal best.

Mark Winn’s mount should have more to offer for his current trainer and a 3lb rise for his first career victory looks within range.

Later on the York card, INTERNATIONAL GIRL has plenty going for her in the British EBF Supporting Racing With Pride Fillies’ Handicap (3.00).

The Richard Fahey-saddled five-year-old, a course-and-distance winner last summer, ran a promising second to Pinafore at Ripon last month and looks up to going one better off the same mark.
