Norwich City: Narcis Pelach joins David Wagner’s backroom team

The 34-year-old departed Huddersfield Town last week after working as an assistant to Danny Schofield, ex-City midfielder Mark Fotheringham and Neil Warnock after serving initially as Carlos Corberan’s right hand man.

The Spaniard, known as Chicho, enjoyed a playing career for Girona before retiring at the age of 25 to focus on his coaching career.

Spells as a head coach at UE Figueres and Peralada followed before he returned to Girona as an assistant coach. He departed his post in 2020.

A move to England followed when he enjoyed brief spells at Manchester City and Leeds United before following Corberan to Huddersfield.

Speaking to club channels about his move to Norfolk, Pelach revealed a deeper insight into the role he will play in Wagner’s team next season.

“I’m looking forward to working with the players and coaches at the club,” Pelach said. “For me, it’s a pleasure and great opportunity to work with the head coach, David, I have big respect for him. I think he is a top coach.

“My role will be analysing the opponents, find out what they are doing in attack and defence and then try to help him with the gameplan to face them, to prepare the team well.

“I can’t wait to start. For me, it’s a big, big opportunity to be a part of this amazing club. I’m looking forward to starting the season, and helping the team to compete and to win.”

City boss Wagner explained why he moved quickly to add Pelach to his backroom staff alongside assistant Christoph Buhler, Andrew Hughes and Ed Wootten.

“Narcís is someone who knows the league. He also has experience working in different roles and positions in many environments,” he said.

“He will form a key part of our coaching strategy and player development programmes, working closely with our existing coaching staff.

“On each occasion when I have spoken with Narcís over the last year we’ve had many good and interesting conversations about the game and different ways of working. I know he is an extremely hard worker, passionate about his job and has a good character.

“I’m delighted to be able to welcome him to our club.”
