Olivia Plath pays heartbreaking tribute to deceased brother
Just. Devastating.
On Thursday, two weeks after her 15-year-old brother Michael was killed in a tragic cycling accident, Olivia Plath shared a lengthy statement on Instagram and Facebook.
“I’ve rewritten this a few times because somehow I’m out of words, even though inside me there’s a vortex of every possible emotion,” the Welcome to Plathville cast member wrote to open this tribute.
She then addressed her deceased sibling directly, writing:
“You will always be in my heart, Micah Titus. You made so much money, and I don’t think you knew how loved you are.
According to the Roanoke Times, the teen died May 4 in Franklin County, Virginia, after being hit by a vehicle late at night while riding his bike.
Micah’s cause of death has been listed as blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and torso by a Franklin County medical examiner.
“I will miss your smile so much,” continued Olivia, who is married to Ethan Plath and has been estranged from both her own family and also her controlling in-laws for years.
“I had not been allowed to see my younger brother Micah for several years, because as an adult I chose a non-religious different path in life than my parents.
“I can’t stop thinking about all the memories we never got to make and how I missed the last few years of his life.”
Along with these heartfelt words, Olivia added a montage of throwback photos with Micah, like the one below:
“Hey guys, I’m jumping off social media for a bit. Don’t worry if you don’t see me – I’m taking up some space now,” Olivia wrote via her Instagram Stories the day after the May 4 incident.
“I lost a younger brother to an unexpected accident last night and I need some clarity and space to grieve.”
Really terrible all around.
“I felt overwhelmed today thinking about all the texts/messages I haven’t answered today,” Olivia continued in her initial statement. “So this is the easiest way for me to let everyone know I’m taking time for private/family.”
Olivia added this week:
“When they grow up in a large family, the older children often become parents to the younger children. Micah was my baby; I was 9 when he was born and I remember that day like yesterday.
“I potty trained him, taught him to read, carried him on my hip and then carried him on my back, and felt largely responsible for him.
“I have often felt jaded as an adult because I was older when I was just a kid, but now I will always cherish those beautiful memories because that is all I have.
“Baby Ticah Mitus, we kids called him.”
Olivia and her husband moved to Minnesota late last year.
According to Micah’s online obituary, he was the ninth of 10 children.
He is remembered as someone who “enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and catching traps, and he became an accomplished outdoorsman.”
According to the same obituary, Micaeh also “enjoyed displaying his trophies and creating video tutorials to teach others to enjoy the life he loved.
Plath concluded in this dreadful case:
Micah suffered from cerebral palsy all his life, caused by a brachial plexus injury during birth, which made it difficult for him to do the things he enjoyed.
In lieu of flowers, my family requests those so inclined to donate to the Brachial Plexus foundation. Donations can be made at ubpn.org.
Micah was only 15 and died in a tragic accident.
Life is not promised; hug your loved ones a little tighter today.
