Munster captain Peter O’Mahony reacted perfectly to John Hodnett’s United Rugby Championship (URC) final post-match interview after beating the Stormers 19-14 in Cape Town.

Hodnett was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up considering that RG Snyman was declared fit for the final as many expected Tadhg Beirne to shift into the back-row.

However, Hodnett stepped up to the mark, producing a man-of-the-match performance, including the game-winning try.

The 24-year-old received the URC man-of-the-match medal from O’Mahony before dropping the F-Bomb just seconds into his interview with former Springbok Kobus Wiese.

“Yeah f**k it, some win in fairness,” the Munster flanker said, evoking the reaction from O’Mahony who immediately covers his face with his palm.

The fans thoroughly enjoyed the youngster’s slip of the tongue, with one response to the clip reading, “POM’s reaction here makes this.”

“Priceless reaction from O’Mahony,” another tweeted.

Paul Williams added: “That slow hand raise to his forehead. After the F bomb. Is comedy gold.”

“You can’t bring these West Cork lads anywhere,” another fan added.

Others were quick to liken Hodnett’s reaction to teammate Paddy Patterson who dropped multiple F-bombs during an interview after beating South Africa ‘A’ last year.

Hodnett’s stellar season

Saturday’s performance capped off a fantastic season for Hodnett, who won the URC Tackle Machine Award.

During the regular season, the Munster back-row made 151 tackles with a 96% accuracy over his 11 URC appearances.

The award is given to the player who boasts the best tackle success rate among those who have attempted 150 or more over the course of the campaign.

In the final against the Stormers, he continued that excellent success rate making all seven of his tackle attempts.

Hodnett joined the Munster Academy in 2019 and is a product of Clonakilty RFC. He represented Ireland in the U20 Six Nations that same year, helping the side Grand Slam the tournament.

He made his PRO14/URC debut against the Southern Kings in 2020 and was also named man of the match in the clash. He has gone on to play over 40 times for the province.
