Place Officer job with Essex County Council

The Opportunity

This role is part of an exciting new team working across the County Council’s responsibilities for Infrastructure and Environment; the Economy, Localities and Public Health to unlock the great potential of places and communities throughout Essex.

The Place Officer will support work across our place-shaping functions: gathering intelligence and evidence about key places; supporting strong working partnerships; helping assess performance of our key programmes and tackle barriers to delivery; and the shaping of strategy and policy options. The role will focus on how the Council can best work in places to achieve better outcomes for communities in Essex.

With good organisational skills and experience of project and programme management, this role will co-ordinate a variety of workstreams across a wide range of subjects. The role will require strong organisational skills and the ability to build working relationships to jointly achieve strategic objectives.

Accountabilities

Contributes to specific workstreams across a range of place projects supporting the business plan and maximising the effectiveness of the Council’s investment and intervention.
Builds good partnerships, internally and externally to support the delivery of shared goals.
Contributes to determining the effectiveness of interventions in place through gathering data and information across the Council and partners.
Works across the function co-ordinating workstreams for key Boards and Groups, to deliver in a timely and effective way.
Ability to develop a variety of clear communications, including briefings, presentations, and meeting actions, for a wide range of audiences.
Works collaboratively, building good internal and external networks co-ordinating workstreams with partners to achieve joint objectives.
Track record of successfully delivery against team and personal objectives.
Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
Ability to gather and analyse data and information, using evidence to compile reports and other communications at senior level.
Great interpersonal skills – able to work collaboratively in a diverse team.
Good organisational skills with ability to co-ordinate and support a range of meetings and Boards.
Experience of building relationships with partners, which are collaborative in their nature to achieve joint tactical objectives.

Ideally you will also demonstrate

Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area.
Understanding of project and programme management.
How to works within a culture of continuous improvement and innovation – translating learning to develop new approaches to service delivery.

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
