Police hunting suspect who ‘looks like Lord Voldemort’
Police investigating a violent incident at a football match have released what could be one of the most unclear CCTV images in history.
Officers are hunting down a suspect in connection with disorder at the Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle match at Hillsborough in February this year.
But the picture South Yorkshire Police’s football intelligence team have shared with the public is so bizarre and unclear that it’s caused quite the reaction on social media.
The blurry, distorted photograph shows what looks like a balding man with a protruding chin and he either has extremely dark eyes or is wearing glasses.
Because of how he looks, many are joking the suspect is clearly Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter, while others believe it could be Uncle Fester of the Addams Family.
A witness appeal put out by the force has been bombarded with comments by people confused at how they could possibly make out the face clearly from the grainy CCTV image.
One joked: ‘Lord Voldemort is doing well for himself.’
Another said: ‘Is that human? I thought this was a post on aliens spotted until I saw it was SYP that put it on.’
A third commenter joked about the quality of the image, and said: ‘Satellites that can zoom in from space.
‘Telescopes capable of seeing clearly to the moon.. and this is the best picture they’ve got.’
Ironic comments were out in full force, with another saying: ‘Pin sharp photography. Should have no trouble identifying the perp!’
And one quite simply wrote: ‘Uncle Fester has let himself go.’
Police said fans clashed outside the ground at the turnstiles on Leppings Lane before the game started on February 4.
A spokesman said: ‘Officers are keen to speak to the man in the image as they believe he can assist with their enquiries.
‘Do you recognise him?’
We’re guessing by the response, the answer to that question is probably: ‘No.’
Unless they really are after Lord Voldemort.
The Owls won the game 1-0 on their way to finishing third in League One before mounting one of the most incredible comeback wins in history in their play-off semi-final against Peterborough.
Sheffield Wednesday take on Barnsley in the play-off final at Wembley on Monday, May 29 as they look to gain promotion to the Championship.
At the weekend, at least 12 people were tragically killed and dozens injured in a stampede at a football match.
