Pride, relief and the party of our lives: 24 ECHO photos which capture a massive May for Liverpool

Pride, relief and the party of our lives: 24 ECHO photos which capture a massive May for Liverpool

May 2023 has been one of the biggest months in Liverpool’s modern history, and ECHO photographers were there every step of the way.

While Eurovision provided the month’s centrepiece with day upon day of amazing parties as the eyes of the world turned on Liverpool, there were also huge events to commemorate the Battle of the Atlantic and a major announcement from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

At the end of the month it was all about Everton, as the club secured Premier League survival – and a chance for Goodison Park to have a fitting farewell next season.

May had begun with change at the top of Liverpool council, with Mayor Joanne Anderson bowing out as the city switched back to a leader and cabinet model. New leader Liam Robinson is now in place at the Cunard Building after the local elections which saw Labour retain power in the city.

So much else has happened in a whirlwind month for our city, and ECHO photographers Iain Watts, Colin Lane and Andy Teebay have been on the spot to capture every moment with pictures showing our city at its very best. We hope you enjoy them.
