Public asked to have say as host of new speed limits proposed across North Lincolnshire

A host of new speeding limits are proposed across North Lincolnshire.

As well as a 40mph speed limit on Brumby Common Lane, Scunthorpe, there are new 30mph restrictions suggested for roads in Barrow upon Humber, Elsham, Greetwell, Kirton-in-Lindsey, and Messingham. North Lincolnshire Council has invited the public to have their say on the changes.

The possible new speed restrictions come as the council continues resurfacing work across the local authority area. Winterton is next, after work has now been completed in Barton-upon-Humber, after Ashby, Scunthorpe, Bottesford and Burringham.

A trio of council cabinet members met at Messingham to discuss the new speeding restrictions and other matters, including new measures to limit street drinking in parts of Scunthorpe. North Lincolnshire Council leader Cllr Rob Waltham said: “We went through a packed agenda looking at ways to improve rural transport to connect communities, families and jobs and some plans to be detailed later this week that will curb street drinking – we will be taking no prisoners and targeting the people making a nuisance of themselves.

“Also, where roads have been identified as a risk in communities, we will step in to protect the safety of pedestrians and motorists but we also need people to drive responsibly and lower their speed – doing this saves lives. We really want people now to have their say on the proposals.”
