Rangers star attracts Sheff Utd, Southampton as four likely European exit routes open up

Finnish international Glen Kamara is exploring options away from Rangers and a host of clubs are keen, TEAMtalk understands.

Rangers boss Michael Beale has admitted there is a chance of him leaving, and there is no shortage of clubs keen on sealing a deal for the 27-year-old midfielder.

TEAMtalk understands promoted Sheffield United and relegated Southampton both have an interest in Kamara, but there is a big chance he could move to the continent.

French sides Rennes and Nice are both showing an interest, whilst newly promoted Serie A duo Frosinone and Genoa are also keen.

Kamara has played 35 times in all competitions for Rangers this season, scoring one goal from 22 Scottish Premiership appearances. Only 12 of his league outings for the runners up were starts after an ankle injury affected him earlier in the campaign.

His contract with Rangers – who he has represented since January 2019, making 193 appearances and scoring nine goals in that time – is due to last until 2025.

Previously, Kamara came through the ranks at Arsenal, enduring loan spells with Southend United and Colchester United, before moving north of the border with Dundee and eventually ending up at Rangers.

Now, either Sheffield United or Southampton could bring him back to English football. As stated, though, there are serious options for him in France and Italy.

After relegation from the Premier League, Southampton might be bracing themselves for bids from remaining top-flight clubs for midfielders like James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia.

Therefore, they could have gaps to fill in their midfield, while Sheffield United will be aiming to equip themselves with the necessary talent to try and stay in the Premier League after promotion.

Kamara and Rangers will be reflecting on what their future plans might be in the coming weeks.

Michael Beale ready for Glen Kamara to make Rangers decision

Earlier this week, manager Beale said: “I think Glen is at a stage of his career at 27 where he is either going to be here now for the rest of his career and dig in and have a really strong pre-season, he is either going to be here for a considerable future or we will probably sell him this summer.

“When I came in he had an ankle problem he couldn’t get over. We kicked the operation into touch because we had a lot of injuries and Glen played through that for a period, then we gave him a chance to settle.

“He has not got back in the team because the boys that are playing have played very well.

“For Glen, everything is open really. But I think he needs to look at the competition that’s here in pre-season and decide whether there is going to be enough football for him.

“Me and the staff’s relationship with Glen is really strong.

“Neil Banfield [assistant manager] was one of the heads of Arsenal when he was coming through. He is a boy that I was quite influential in bringing to the club and I have gone on a journey with him.

“Against Hearts last week, I thought he grew into the game but he went into the game with a slight hamstring issue.

“Glen will go away with Finland in the summer and we will see what happens. I think Glen needs the break to really consider where he is at in his career and what he wants to do.”
