Recap as large armed police response seen near park in Clifton

A large police presence was reported in Clifton. A number of armed officers from Nottinghamshire Police were seen on Sunday, June 25, close to the skate park on Farnborough Road at around 3pm.

Officers were called after “suspicious activity” was reported. Two police vans and at least five police cars were at the scene.

The dog unit was also called and a gate providing entrance to the park has been cordoned off. An eyewitness reported seeing a helicopter overhead as part of the response into the incident.


Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Police are currently searching an area of Farnborough Road, Clifton, as part of an ongoing incident. Officers were called to the scene at around 1.30pm today (25 June) following reports of suspicious activity.

“Members of the public are being advised that an area of the skate park off Farnborough Road remains cordoned off while officers complete their search. There have been no reports of any injuries and we do not currently believe there to be any risk to the wider public.

“Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 394 of 26 June 2023, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.” Follow our live blog below for updates.

Anyone with information should call 101

Resident saw “police helicopter circling for about an hour”

A resident who wished to remain anonymous said: “All I saw was the police helicopter circling for about an hour, so I’ve come to have a look. We don’t often see that many police down here.

“It’s usually a good place to live apart the occasional yob.”

Officers called to the scene following reports of “suspicious activity”

Residents advised to stay inside their homes

An anonymous resident of Swansdowne Drove said he had been advised to stay inside by police officers. He said: “They’ve been here for two hours and I think they will be here for longer.

“We haven’t really been told much, apart from something has happened nearby. We see police around here all the time”

Multiple police vehicles respond to Farnborough Road following incident

Several police cars are at the scene of an incident on Farnborough Road, Clifton. A Nottinghamshire Police van is also at the scene along with the dog unit.
