RETAINED LIST CONFIRMED – News

Four first-team players depart with the Club’s best wishes

The Club can confirm its retained list following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

Contract offers have been made to first-team duo Sone Aluko and Massimo Luongo, as well as youngster Tawanda Chirewa.

Joel Coleman, Richard Keogh, Matt Penney and Kane Vincent-Young will all depart Portman Road when their respective contracts expire this summer.

Goalkeeper Joel joined Town on an initial short-term deal in November, after fellow shot-stopper Nick Hayes picked up an injury, and extended his stay in January.

He has played a vital role as part of the goalkeeping department on a daily basis, including for both home and away fixtures.

Richard rejoined the Blues in the summer, having previously been in the Club’s Academy as a youngster.

The central defender made 16 appearances in his time at Town, and captained the side for a Papa Johns Trophy tie against Arsenal U21 in September.

Alongside his efforts on the pitch, his experience in the dressing room has been invaluable, as has his contribution to developing his fellow defenders with high standards set at Playford Road.

Matt moved to Town in July 2021 on a free transfer following his release from Sheffield Wednesday.

He made 26 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring once, before impressing in the first half of last term on loan at Motherwell.

The left-back spent the latter half of the 2022/23 season with Charlton.

Kane joined from Colchester in the summer of 2019 and made 64 appearances in his time with the Blues.

Of those 64 appearances, 26 came in Town’s promotion-winning 2022/23 campaign.

Despite limited gametime this calendar year, the full-back has continued to be a model professional and positive influence as part of the first-team squad.

Loan players George Hirst and Tyreece John-Jules have returned to their respective parent clubs, Leicester City and Arsenal.

George joined in January and, having netted his first goal away at Burnley in the Emirates FA Cup, went on to score six League One goals, with his last coming in the promotion-clinching win over Exeter.

Tyreece, meanwhile, found the back of the net three times in 21 appearances before seeing his season end prematurely through injury.

All other first-team players remain under contract ahead of the 2023/24 season in the Sky Bet Championship.

Elsewhere, 10 Academy players will depart Town this summer.

The Club would like to place on record its thanks and best wishes to those players moving on from Portman Road.
