Ricky Ponting sells long-time Brighton mansion for around $16m
Cricket legend Ricky Ponting and wife Rianna have officially sold their glamorous beachside property. The 1920s Brighton trophy home hit the market in May, and is understood to have sold within the range of the $14.8m-$16m price guide.

The former Australian captain, who is currently in England trading barbs with Kevin Pietersen as the Aussies won the first Ashes Test, achieved the sale through Forbes Global’s Mike Gibson in partnership with Andrew Smith of BuyerX.
Mr Gibson said it was the second his firm had sold in Brighton’s golden mile in recent weeks, with another eight figure sale at 12 Dudley St.
The Herald Sun understands that home made more than $20m.
“It’s very interesting that both properties sold to local families,” Mr Gibson said.
“Brighton people love their suburb.”
The two top-end sales in the illustrious Bayside port were a sign of the strength in that market, he added.
“That market is alive and well,” Mr Gibson said.
However, he noted there would be few options for sellers in the coming weeks as premier listings dropped away for winter.
PropTrack records show the Pontings bought the seven-bedroom Brighton home for $9.25m in 2013.
“We’re thrilled with the sale of our house, especially to such a lovely family,” the couple told AFR.
“It’s a beautiful family home, and we hope they love living here as much as we do.”
The sale comes as the couple recently bought a $20m property in Toorak to be closer to their three children’s sporting activities.
Proximity to friends, such as former teammate and longtime Brighton resident the late Shane Warne, was what initially attracted the Pontings to the suburb a decade ago.
After retiring from full time cricket in 2012, Ricky and Rianna sold the family home in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire and headed south to settle in Melbourne’s Bayside area.
“Landmark residences like this, especially in such a recognised blue-chip address, have a really broad appeal,” Mr Gibson said of the home when it was listed.

“Shandford’ is already one of Brighton’s landmarks but it could evolve from here to become one of Australia’s true residential trophies.”
The Pontings’ next home in Toorak will be a relative downsizer move by millionaire standards, as it is smaller than the grand Shandford, which sits on an expansive 1900sq m parcel.
The mammoth proportions and historic detailing make Ponting’s former Brighton home one of the most significant in the neighbourhood.
Beyond its elaborate foyer, there are elegant formal rooms, a timber-panelled study, a modern kitchen with butler’s pantry and an expansive home cinema.
Outdoors there are a full-sized tennis court, pool and private laneway to the beach.
The Pontings also own a luxury weekender in Portsea, which they bought in 2019 for $3.51m.
