Roads not being cared for properly
Editor — I wholly agree with your correspondent Michael Herriot on the subject of potholes, Fix My Street and Oxfordshire County Council, the highways authority (Standard, May 5).
Apparently, Henley Residents Group’s representative on the council secured
£1.5 million investment in our roads. That money is not being spent fixing roads.
Road paintwork is failing or has not been restored, the road from the bridge to the town centre is atrocious and infills need refilling because they are done so shabbily.
And for three years the council has taken no action to unblock numerous road drains/clean gullies, which leads to surface water floods, notably the intermittent tarn in Deanfield Road.
With regard to Nicholas Road and the now sunken drains, the contractors actually tarmacked over some of them three months ago.
I suppose that’s one way of solving the problem of not having to keep them clear. — Yours faithfully,

Sir, — I am writing to express my concern about the dangerous potholes on both sides of the road by High Woods, Mays Green.
I have noticed that the potholes are becoming increasingly large and deep, posing a threat to the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians who use the road.
As a resident of the area, I am deeply concerned about the condition of the road and believe that it is the responsibility of the local council to address the problem promptly.
In addition to being a danger to road users, the potholes also damage vehicles and increase the cost of repairs for drivers.
Moreover, they are unsightly and give a poor impression of our community to visitors.
I urge the council to take immediate action to repair the potholes and prevent any further damage to the road.
I also request that the council provides updates on when the repairs will take place. Thank you. — Yours faithfully,
Edward-James Ponsonby
