One of the biggest race meetings of the season is nearly upon us. It’s almost time for Royal Ascot, which isn’t just one of the biggest meetings in the United Kingdom, oh no. Royal Ascot is one of the most famous festivals of racing in the world.

Royal Ascot is to flat racing what Cheltenham is to jumps racing. It is the pinnacle of the sport. Many of the best flat performers, not just form Britain and Ireland, but from other countries too, will battle it out for something that every flat trainer and owner wants, a slice or Royal Ascot Glory.

With the five-day feast of racing now just a few days away, let’s take a look at the schedule for the week. When will certain races take places? what time will each day begin? Let’s find out.

When is Royal Ascot 2023?

The 2023 renewal of Royal Ascot will take place the week commencing June 19th. The first day of the meeting with be Tuesday, June 20th, with the festival lasting for five days, ending on Saturday, June 24th.

Each day, for those in attendance, the gates to the course will open at 10:30am, meaning that racegoers can make a day of it and soak in the atmosphere and race-day build up hours before the first race is set to begin.

Royal Ascot 2023 Full Race Schedule

Royal Ascot is unique in that it is not only the most prestigious racing festival on British shores, but the longest too. It is the only race meeting that last for a full five days. Across those five day, those lucky enough to be at the venue, along with those watching live on television, will witness a plethora of top-quality graded races, as well as several incredibly competitive handicap races.

Below is the full race schedule for Royal Ascot 2023, broken down day by day:

Royal Ascot Day One

The first day of Royal Ascot 2023 takes place on Tuesday, June 20th. The opening race of Royal Ascot 2023 will be the Queen Anne Stakes, which is a Group 1 contest run over a mile. See below for the full day-one race schedule:

14:30 – Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1,  4YO plus, one mile)

15:05 – Coventry Stakes (Group 2, 2YO only, six furlongs)

15:40 – King’s Stand Stakes (Group 1, 3YO plus, five furlongs)

16:20 St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1, 4YO plus, one mile)

17:00 – Ascot Stakes (Handicap, Class 2, 4YO plus, two miles and four furlongs)

17:35 – Wolferton Stakes (Listed, 4YO plus, one mile and two furlongs)

18:10 Copper House Handicap (Handicap, Class 2, 4YO plus, one mile and six furlongs)

Royal Ascot Day Two

Day two of Royal Ascot takes place on Wednesday, June 21st. On the second day of Royal Ascot, the first race will be the Queen Mary Stakes, which is a Group 2 for fillies only, run over five furlongs. See below for the full day-two race schedule:

15:40 – Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Fillies & Mares Group 2, 4YO plus, one mile)

16:20 – Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1, 4YO plus, one mile and two furlongs)

17:00 – Royal Hunt Cup (Handicap, Class 2, 3YO plus, one mile)

17:35 – Queen’s Vase (Group 2, 3YO only, one mile and six furlongs)

18:10 – Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed, 2YO only, five furlongs)

Royal Ascot Day Three

The third day of Royal Ascot takes place on Thursday, June 22nd. The first race set to take place on the third day of Royal Ascot is the Norfolk Stakes, which is a Group 2 affair for two-year-olds. For the full say-three schedule see below:
