Briton Ryan Peniston has a shot against one of the world’s best players, Holger Rune, on centre court at Queens at around 3pm UK time.
Peniston has shown improvement later on than most would expect in his career. He is currently ranked at #265 in the world, British number seven, but reached a high of #121 in 2022. He has worked his way through the ITF tour and now competes regularly on the ATP Challenger circuit, just below the main tour.
The British player showed his potential with a dismantling of Ugo Humbert, a dark horse for the tournament win. The Frenchman didn’t play well but Peniston got the job done confidently and effectively.
Holger Rune is up at number six in the world and is a multiple ATP Tour champion, though he has yet to prove himself as competent on grass.
The pair actually met this time last year at Eastbourne and Peniston came out on top in three sets. Rune was only ranked #28 in the world at the time, but had just come off a quarter-final run at Roland-Garros. This will undoubtedly fuel the belief of Peniston and Rune can expect to be in for a tough time in this match.
Play gets underway at 1.30pm BST on Sunday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court at Queens.
