Sam Allardyce names his ideal appointment to become Leeds United boss

Sam Allardyce believes his Leeds United assistant Karl Robinson now deserves a shot in charge at Elland Road.

Leeds United are searching for a new manager and Sam Allardyce has now backed Karl Robinson to take the job.

Allardyce came in with just four games to play as Leeds desperately attempted to stay in the Premier League.

It didn’t happen though as Leeds were relegated without managing to climb a win under Allardyce.

Leeds have already announced that Allardyce is moving on and the search for his successor is now on.

The likes of Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker have been linked of late but Allardyce has picked out his own ideal replacement.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Allardyce named his Leeds assistant Karl Robinson as the man who should get the main job.

Allardyce thinks Robinson has done his time in the lower leagues and now deserves a chance to step up and take over a huge club like Leeds.

“What you have to realise is that when I give somebody the ok it’s not a friend, he’s a friend as such, I worked with him only for a few months at Blackburn Rovers but I’ve followed his career very very closely, so I’m not recommending a friend, I’m recommending somebody who I think is capable – more than capable. He deserves the opportunity.”

“If you look at his record he’s got an outstanding record in terms of where he’s been at the football clubs he’s been. I know people look at that down in the lower divisions, but we all have to start somewhere and work our way, so I’d have never got to the top if somebody had ignored me down there, but eventually I did and I think Karl deserves a crack,” Allardyce said.

Karl Robinson seems unlikely to land Leeds United job

This suggestion was always going to come.

Robinson got a foot in the door having reunited with Allardyce after previously working together at Blackburn Rovers.

The 42-year-old has been out of management since February having been sacked by League One side Oxford United.

Robinson has largely done a good job with all of his clubs, from Milton Keynes to Oxford via Charlton Athletic.

Yet it’s hard to imagine that Leeds will now go for Robinson – who has spent most of his managerial career in League One – as the man to take them back to the Premier League.

Robinson will surely land a managerial job soon enough but we just can’t see Leeds putting him in charge of their promotion hopes.
