Sheffield United news: Coady issue could favour Nottingham Forest, Man City-linked starlet eyed
Here are today’s Sheffield United headlines and transfer rumours, including the race for Conor Coady and Burnley eyeing a move for a player linked with the Blades last month.

A report claims Conor Coady’s wages at Wolves are £62,000-a-week. That could be problematic for United if they wish to bring him back to Bramall Lane next season.
The Blades were the first club linked with a move for their former loanee but since then others are said to have entered the race. Nottingham Forest are also believed to be keen on the 30-year-old, who is expected to be allowed to leave Wolves again this summer following his season at Everton.
United’s transfer blueprint is to target young players on permanent deals but use the loan market to bring in players with Premier League experience. Should Forest wish to bring him in on a permanent move, Steve Cooper is armed with a much bigger budget and will be able to make that deal.

However, Heckingbottom could stand a chance if wanting to bring him on loan with a temporary switch allowing for a higher contribution to his wages. Both clubs will be watching Coady’s developments with interest in the coming weeks, with whoever can offer the best package to both club and player likely to get him.
If it’s a straight financial shootout, Forest will hold the advantage, but Heckingbottom may be able to convince him to move to S2 if he can offer more playing time.
Burnley interest in Man City youngster linked to United
Vincent Kompany is looking to sign a keeper. According to the Mail, the Burnley boss is weighing up another offer for Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen after having a £12.8million bid rejected.
Anderlecht need the cash but the Clarets’ bid was understood to consist of staggered payments and add-ons. He is also being linked with a move for Man City keeper James Trafford.
The 20-year-old was last month linked with Sheffield United as City want to place their young shot-stopper at a Premier League club.
Nottingham Forest eye one-time Blades target
Sheffield United have long been linked with Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, spanning right back to their last stint in the Premier League. The Turkish shot-stopper came close to joining in the summer of 2020. A deal was thought to be done but the goalposts moved at the last minute and United opted for Aaron Ramsdale instead.
It’s believed United’s interest in the 27-year-old has remained and it’s already been claimed he is on their radar again this summer. A move this time round could prove challenging given Paul Heckingbottom’s budget but Nottingham Forest are now said to have placed him on their list of possible candidates.
It is being reported that Forest will turn to Cakir if they don’t manage to get a permanent deal for former Sheffield United loanee Dean Henderson over the line.
Former Blade leaves Huddersfield
Leigh Bromby has left his role as sporting director at Huddersfield Town. The former Blades defender, who moved to Bramall Lane from local rivals Sheffield Wednesday in 2004, made more than 100 appearances in a red and white shirt and was a big part of the Neil Warnock years.
He was influential in bringing his former boss back to the John Smith’s Stadium last season to save them from relegation but his exit has been confirmed after nine years in West Yorkshire. The decision comes ahead of Kevin M. Nagle’s expected takeover being finalised shortly.
Newcastle sign Gambia forward Yankuba Minteh
Newcastle have completed a deal to sign the much sought-after 18-year-old Gambia forward Yankuba Minteh from Danish side OB, and will send him straight out on loan to Feyenoord, reports the Press Association.
The teenager will officially complete his move to the Magpies on July 1, subject to approval, and will immediately be joining the Dutch champions for the 2023-24 season to continue his development.
Minteh made 17 senior appearances for OB in the Danish Superliga, scoring four goals and contributing six assists.
