Sheffield United news: Man City’s Mcatee decision, Newcastle loanee leaves, Gyokores ‘wants out’
Hello and welcome to today’s round-up of Sheffield United news as Man City make loan decision on James McAtee and former loan player Ciaran Clark is leaving Newcastle United.
Man City reward for McAtee
It has been claimed that Man City will not be sending James McAtee out on loan next season. The 20-year-old had enjoyed his first taste of competitive football on loan at Bramall Lane last season.
He ended the campaign with a string of influential performances, scooping the young Player of the Year award as he helped Sheffield United hold on to the second automatic promotion spot with nine goals and three assists.

Paul Heckingbottom had hinted before leaving for his summer holidays that he would be enquiring about bringing him back but, according to the Mailonline, talks have already taken place at the Etihad about next season and Pep Guardiola is keen to keep him around the first-team picture for now.
United may well be asking to stay informed about those plans should anything change.
‘One more year’
Retirement was never going to suit Neil Warnock, was it? The 74-year-old, who originally said he was calling it a day, came back for one last gig at Huddersfield Town last season to help save them from relegation.
Victory over Sheffield United in the penultimate fixture of the campaign secured their status in the Championship despite the Terriers being up against it when he arrived. He said following the conclusion of that season that it was only ever going to be a temporary appointment.
However, Huddersfield have today confirmed that the former Blades boss, who led his hometown club to the Premier League in 2006, would be taking on the job permanently for ‘one more year’.
Ciaran Clark leaving Newcastle
It won’t come as too much of a shock, but former Sheffield United loanee Ciaran Clark is leaving Newcastle United. The club have announced that the 33-year-old will leave the club at the end of the month when his contract expires.
Clark spent last season on loan at Bramall Lane but was plagued by hamstring trouble and made only seven starts.
Brighton snap-up Milner
Brighton have announced the signing of James Milner on a free transfer from Liverpool. The 37-year-old former England international has agreed a one-year contract, with the option for a further 12 months.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s website: “I’m very glad to welcome James to Brighton. He’s an excellent addition for us and I’m sure he will help to bring us to an even higher level.”
Gyokores ‘wants out’ at Coventry
Coventry City may well have to let Viktor Gyökeres leave this summer. The Championship side, who slapped a £20m price tag on their star striker last season, missed out on a place in the top flight on penalties in the play-off final.
The BBC now reports that he has told Swedish media he ‘wants to move away’. The 25-year-old is a player United fans would love to see brought to Bramall Lane next season but it was felt the valuation was beyond their reach.
Coventry might have to revise that figure having failed to secure promotion and Gyökeres feeling the ‘price tag of £20m might be a little bit steep when he only has a year left’.
