Shocking moment driver loses control, smashes through fence and almost crushes young boy

This is the heart-stopping moment an elderly driver lost control and ploughed through a newly erected fence almost crushing a child.

The driver reversed into a car, trapping a woman who desperately jumped in and tried to put the handbrake on before crashing through the fence with a young boy just inches away. She also knocked over a pram where the father was about to place his baby.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Thorpe Willoughby near Selby, North Yorkshire, on Saturday at 10.35am. Thankfully no one was seriously injured.

The driver was reported to the DVLA and breathalysed, as is the standard procedure. Footage shows the crash in full, with a white car seen reversing uncontrollably through the garden fence, narrowly missing a young child who was standing nearby.

As it is reversing, a woman can be seen trying to stop the car before she is knocked over too. An ambulance later arrives at the scene with its blues and twos on.
