Essex County Council are looking for an Intern within the Employability and Skills Team . The internship will be for 20 weeks and after in-person onboarding at County Hall, Chelmsford, the intern will primarily be working from home but with a minimum of monthly get togethers at County Hall in Chelmsford. The intern will, however, have access to any of the County offices if they prefer to come into the office on a regular basis. Likewise, there will be hybrid options to replace face to face meetings as needed. This will be discussed at interview or induction.

As an Intern, you will be supported during your time with us by your work buddies who will be on-hand to advise and guide you in your new role. You will also be supported and invited to regular check-ins with the Entry to Work Team.

Essential Requirements for the role:

  • You have a primary diagnosis of Autism
  • You are aged 18 or over at the start of the internship
  • You are a UK resident/have the right to work in the UK.
  • You are available to work for at least 18 hours per week, for 20 weeks from late September 2023.
  • English and Maths at Grace A*-C (or 4-9) or English & Maths Functional Skills at Level 2 or equivalent by experience

About You:

You will have:

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge and skills within the workplace.
  • An interest in skills or education administration. (Previous work or volunteer experience working within a similar role or environment would be beneficial, but notessential as full training and support will be provided).
  • Experience of working with IT systems including Microsoft Office applications, and willingness to learn new systems is important.
  • Ability to embrace change and work collaboratively with colleagues and partners.

What will you be doing?

Working as part of a very friendly and highly skilled team, you will deliver effective administrative support on a range of projects across the employability and skills teams family. You will be supported by the team to deliver a flexible and agile service, allowing you to develop your own skills, capabilities and knowledge.

Some of the tasks you may do are:

  • Research
  • Project support
  • Data entry into CRM or case management systems
  • Closing digital files (archiving)
  • Attending meetings with colleagues and partners (on Microsoft Teams or in person)
  • Preparing financial or project paperwork
  • Preparing and sending email correspondence
  • Creating and managing data within excel spreadsheets
  • Creating surveys and questionnaires
  • Shadowing colleagues to gain insight into their work
  • Shadowing note taking at meetings

As the Internship develops, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and full training and support will be given.

Interviews:To ensure that we match your aspirations with our roles there will be an informal pre-interview video chat between 12th- 30th June. Following the informal chat if you are shortlisted for interview, you will be invited to an in-person interview between 10th-14th July.
