Stamford AFC Strollers 50s have recorded back-to-back wins in the WFLA National Cup and the WFA National Cup.

They made the journey to Lincoln with only six players as Dave Moore, Dave Forth, Ady Wooley, Tim Marsden, Iain Ross, and Mike Edwards were the men tasked with securing much-needed points in their league campaign.

Sitting at the bottom of the table with just seven points, every game was a must-win for the Strollers.

Their first match was against the formidable Lincoln Invictus 50s, who were sitting comfortably in second place.

However, the Strollers were determined to start the day off with a bang.

It didn’t take long for them to open the scoring, as Edwards intercepted a pass and quickly fed the ball to Ross, who calmly slotted it home.

From then on, the Strollers’ defence held strong, with Wooley and Forth putting in a solid shift.

Although they gave away a few chances, the Strollers held on to their 1-0 lead with Ross also hitting the post in the second half.

Their second match against Louth was a crucial six-pointer in the relegation battle.

Unfortunately, a mistake by a Strollers player allowed Louth to take an early lead.

However, the Strollers were soon given a lifeline, as a penalty was awarded for a Louth player stepping into the area.

Although the penalty was dispatched, the goal was disallowed by referee Dave Bent, who noticed that the striker had taken a step back instead of forward.

The Strollers then equalised through Ross, who scored a stunning goal.

He thought he had scored his second of the match, but it was disallowed for pushing.

The second half saw the Strollers hit the crossbar twice and the post once, but they were unable to find the back of the net again with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The Strollers’ final match of the day was against their friends at Boston United.

After a tightly contested 10 minutes, the Strollers got the all-important goal to take the lead.

However, Boston United began to put on the pressure, with some fine defending and three excellent saves from Dave Moore keeping the score at 1-0.

Mike Edwards was given a blue card, but the Strollers held out defensively until he came back on, eventually securing a great 1-0 win.

Overall, the Strollers had a fantastic day, securing seven points and lifting themselves off the bottom of the table.

With the possibility of finishing as runners-up in the league if results go their way in the last few games of the season, the Strollers should be proud of their efforts.

Playing with no substitutes, the entire team put in a monumental effort to last the whole session.

It was a great display from everyone involved, and they will undoubtedly take a lot of confidence from this result.
