The 10 private gardens in Suffolk opening to the public

The National Garden Scheme (NGS) gives unique access to private gardens across the country and it raises money for nursing and health charities through admissions, tea and cake. 

Tickets can be purchased on the NGS website or, for most places, it will be possible to turn up on the day.

Saturday, June 3

1. The Old Recotry, Ingham, Suffolk IP31 1NQ

The garden is open from 11am and 5pm. Tickets cost £4 with children going free. 

There will also be homemade teas available. 

Sunday, June 4

2. Great Bevills, Sudbury Road, Bures CO8 5JW

The private garden will be open between 2pm and 5.30pm. 

Tickets costs £5 with children also going free. 

Sunday, June 11

3. Ashe Park, Ivy Lodge Road, Campsea Ashe, Woodbridge IP13 0QB 

The 12 acre garden has gone through many changes throughout the past 350 years.

The bones of the garden have been retained including calm canals, massive cedar trees and yew hedges, walled garden, rock and rose gardens.

The garden is open between 10.30am and 5.30pm with tickets priced at £6.30 per adult. 

4. Great Thurlow Hall, Great Thurlow, Haverhill CB9 7LF

Explore 13 acres of beautiful gardens set around the River Stour banks  which are adorned with stunning displays of daffodil and narcissi.

The garden at Great Thurlow Hall has been welcoming National Garden Scheme visitors for over 60 years.

Tickets cost £5 with children going free and the garden will be open between 2pm and 5pm. 

5. Oakley Cottage, Chapel Street, Peasenhall, Saxmundham IP17 2JD

A newcomer to the list this year is Oakley Cottage which is a fine example of a cottage garden.

Tickets are priced at £5 with children also going free. The garden is open from 12.30pm to 5pm. 

Saturday, June 17

6. The Old Rectory, Church Lane, Kirton, Ipswich IP10 0PT

The private garden is open from 10.30am to 4pm. 

Admission fee is £5 for adults with homemade teas available. 

Children go free. 

Sunday, June 18

7. Hillside, Union Hill, Semer IP7 6HN

The garden is in an historic setting with sweeping lawns leading down to a spring fed carp pond. 

The formal garden has island beds of mixed planting for a long season of interest.

Entry costs £5 and the garden will be open from 11am to 4pm. 

8. 5 Parklands Green, Fornham St. Genevieve IP28 6UH

Filled with mature and unusual trees and shrubs the private garden is well worth a visit.

Open between 11am and 4pm entry costs £5 with children going free. 

Saturday, June 24

9. Kersey Gardens, The Street, Kersey IP7 6ED

Located in arguably one of Suffolk’s most attractive villages the two gardens will be open between 11am and 5pm. 

Combined entry costs is £6 with children going free. 

Homemade teas will also be available. 

Sunday, June 25

10. Heron House, Priors Hill Road, Aldeburgh IP15 5EP

Two acres with superb views over the North Sea, River Alde and marshes.

It is quite well protected from North and East winds, but exposed to the South West.

The garden will be open from 2pm to 5pm with entry costing £5 for adults.
