The author of ‘The Bitcoin Standard’ becomes economic adviser to El Salvador
Dr. Saifedean Ammous, the author of the explanatory book on Bitcoin (BTC), The Bitcoin standardhas been appointed economic advisor to the National Bitcoin Office of El Salvador.
On 30 May, the Bureau announced that the Austrian economist had joined the team as an adviser on matters related to various economic policy areas.
The now famous book by Dr. First published in April 2018, Ammous, The Bitcoin Standard, analyzes the transition from solid stores of value to inflated assets and fiat currencies. It also traces the history of money and aims to show how civilizations have changed with their monetary systems.
As for the new position, he tweeted on May 30 that he was “thrilled” to work in an office in “the first country to adopt a Bitcoin standard!”

Speaking to local media outlet Diario El Salvador on May 30, Ammous said, “What makes Bitcoin unique is that it gives you the opportunity to have a strong asset that does not depreciate over the years.”
“If you have money that depreciates over time, there is no point in saving and it makes sense to go into debt,” he added.
“If you keep accumulating Bitcoin for the next five years, chances are El Salvador will be debt free.”
The National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) reported that Dr. Ammous recently traveled to El Salvador to teach students of CUBO+, a Bitcoin and Lightning Network developer program for locals, to learn the code and concepts.
He also met President Nayib Bukele and shared his views on the “remarkable benefits of the economic freedom policy”.
The ONBTC stated that Dr. Ammous declined any remuneration for the role and was only interested in supporting President Bukele’s Bitcoin policies.
El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office was established in November 2022 by President Nayib Bukele to manage all things crypto.

Bukele’s Bitcoin team is growing, in addition to the recently appointed professor, American broadcaster Max Keizer and television presenter Stacy Herbet are also part of it.
Max Keizer noticed that The Bitcoin Standard “‘Orange Pilled’ millions, inclusive [MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor] and many business and finance heavyweights who continue to add Bitcoin to their coffers on a daily basis.
