TL;DR

  • In an interview Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, has revealed that the Phone 2 will have a 4,700 mAh battery.
  • The Nothing Phone 2 will also launch in July 2023, in line with previously revealed information.

Nothing gets ready for the launch of their second smartphone. The Nothing Phone 2 makes the leap into flagship territory with a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, meaning it needs more power to keep up with the chip’s demands. Fortunately, nothing has confirmed that the battery capacity on the Phone 2 will increase.

Nothing mentioned co-founder and CEO Carl Pei in an interview with Forbes that the Nothing Phone 2 will have a 4,700 mAh battery. This is a good increase over the 4,500 mAh battery present in the Nothing Phone 1. The Phone 1 had decent battery life, but it also had a power efficient and less demanding Snapdragon 778G Plus SoC.

The interview mentions that the combination of the chip and battery gives us an “80% overall performance boost” (sic) over the Phone 1. However, we find the statement ambiguous as the battery doesn’t have much to do with ” overall performance.” A larger battery and the greater efficiency of the chip would have given us an improvement in battery life, which is not explicitly mentioned in the interview. So keep this in mind as you read that number.

Second, the image shows that the Nothing Phone 2 has the A065 model number, so do what you can with this information.

Third, the interview reveals that the Nothing Phone 2 will launch in July 2023, which falls within the latest confirmed window of a “British Summer” launch.

No trickle marketing for the Phone 2 is underway, and we’ll no doubt be hearing more about the device ahead of its launch in the US and around the world. Considering Carl has sold 750,000 units of the Phone 1, there’s definitely interest in what this company is doing. So are you excited about this phone?
