The Script Taking Social Media Break Ahead Of First Gigs Without Mark Sheehan

The Script Taking Social Media Break Ahead Of First Gigs Without Mark Sheehan

The Script have said that their members are planning to take a break from social media ahead of their first gigs without Mark Sheehan following his passing.

Mark passed away back in April following a ‘brief illness,’ with fans of the band shocked and saddened at the surprising news.

While the band plan to continue their tour without Mark, they have said that they will be paying tribute to the guitarist following his passing — with Danny O’Donoghue adding that the lads will be taking a break from their social media accounts ahead of the gigs.

‘We need to be one big family right now, so we’re switching off our personal accounts for a while ahead of the shows,’ Danny wrote on his Instagram. ‘We’ll be posting content from Marks tribute shows in Blackpool and Wolverhampton on @thescriptofficial. Big love.’

The band’s fans were more than understanding of the decision, with one commenting ‘He will be with u on that stage, and in the hearts of all the fans. To do these shows when everything is still so fresh is going to be exceptional emotional and hard for all the team on the road. We are all proud of u guys x.’

‘Sending you all so much love,’ another wrote, while a third added ‘Can’t believe he’s gone. Sending all the love in the world to you xx.’

The Script are set to play the Blackpool Opera House on Sunday (June 4) before heading to The Halls in Wolverhampton on Monday (June 5).

Mark, who hailed from the Liberties area of Dublin, died in hospital ‘after a brief illness’.

In a statement posted to social media back in April, the band confirmed his death, paying tribute to him as a much-loved father, brother, bandmate and friend.

‘Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away in hospital today after a brief illness,’ the band wrote on Twitter. ‘The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.’

The musician was a dad to three children and lived in America with his wife Rina. He had been married for over 20 years.

Mark was absent for a series of Script concerts in 2021 and 2022 and had only reunited with the band last year for live performances, which included a benefit concert at the 3 Arena in Dublin.
