The shocking Premier League table since Antonio Conte left Spurs

Tottenham have had a turbulent 2022-23 campaign to say the least and they have struggled to find much form since Antonio Conte left the club in March this year.

The Italian manager had guided Spurs to a top-four finish in the previous season. Stringing together a fine run of results towards the end of the season, they pipped their North London rivals into the Champions League.

However, despite what looked at the time like a solid summer transfer window, they have struggled to find the same consistency this season.

Spurs did start the 2022-23 campaign fairly well, only losing one of their opening 10 Premier League matches. However, from October onwards it has been a bumpy ride.

Despite the goals that Harry Kane has put up, Spurs have failed to string together more than two wins in a row all season. Their latest defeat against Brentford now makes it just one win in their last six matches.

The final straw for Conte turned out to be a 3-3 draw with Southampton at the end of March. The Italian manager didn’t hold back on his assessment of his squad in the post-match interview.

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players. I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart [into it],” Conte told reporters after the match.

“The most important thing if you want to become a strong team, if you want to become competitive, if you want to fight to win, is the desire, the fire that you need to have in your eyes, in your heart. And you have to show this in every moment. In every moment.

“If I have to compare last season and this season, I said to improve, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team, everything can happen, in any moment.

“Today is the last situation. Don’t forget that in the FA Cup we lost to Sheffield United, who played with young players. We were able with a strong team to be dropped in FA Cup. And then a lot of situations, I repeat, that we are not going to improve. And I am not speaking about tactical aspect or technical aspect.”

Cristian Stellini was originally handed the responsibility after Conte left, before Ryan Mason then took over. While both managers have tried to tweak things, they have struggled to find much consistency.
