THREE CENTURIONS AND TEN WICKET HAUL FOR TRIALLIST AS SECONDS SEAL INNINGS VICTORY

Worcestershire Seconds completed a resounding innings and 179 run success over Gloucestershire in the Second Eleven Championship at Stourport with the help of several outstanding individual performances.

Captain Gareth Roderick and rookie contract professionals Rehaan Edavalath and Olly Cox all scored centuries and triallist Australian pace bowler Ethan Carrington had a match haul of 10 wickets.

Worcestershire sealed victory early on the fourth morning as they continued the good form shown in the latter stages of the Seconds T20 tournament.

Gloucestershire opted to bat after winning the toss and reached 50-0 but Cameron jones broke the stand and he and Carrington brought about a major collapse after they came on as first and second change respectively.

Ten wickets fell for 82 runs in 26.2 overs as the visitors were dismissed for 132.

Carrington, who plays first grade club cricket in Perth and for Solihull-Blossomfield in the Warwickshire County League, finished with figures of 10-4-30-5 and Jones 7-1-25-3.

Ben Gibbon (13-1-44-1) and Josh Baker (1.1-0-1-1) were the other wicket-takers.

Worcestershire then amassed 516-7 declared spanning three days because of weather interruptions and play did not get underway on day two until 3.15pm.

Roderick made 104 off 179 balls with 11 fours and added 160 for the second wicket with Edavalath.

Edavalath then shared in a further partnership of 69 with Nils Priestley (35) before he was finally fifth out with the total 343 after hitting 131 off 280 balls with 16 fours and batting for almost six hours.

Cox dominated the remainder of the innings, striking the only three sixes of the innings and 11 fours in racing to 127 not out from 123 balls.

He added 52 with Josh Baker for the sixth wicket, 66 with Jones (29) for the seventh and an unbroken 55 for the eighth with Gibbon before the declaration.

It was the first time three Worcestershire players had scored hundreds in the same Second Eleven Championship innings since Jack Haynes (165), Ross Whiteley (109 not out) and Josh Dell (107) against Lancashire in 2021 – also at Stourport.

Gloucestershire faced a huge deficit of 384 on first innings and Gibbon struck two early blows to reduce them to 5-2.

After Adam Sylvester had made a double breakthrough, Carrington worked his way through the middle and lower order and a three day finish looked likely until rain and bad light halted play for the day with the total 191-8.

Carrington quickly wrapped up proceedings with the final two wickets on day four as Gloucestershire were dismissed for 205 in 67.5 overs.

It gave the 21-year-old, who has a British passport, a second innings analysis of 14.5-4-61-5 and match figures of 24.5-8-91-10.

Gibbon ended with 12-7-19-3 and Sylvester 14-2-44-2.

Worcestershire picked up 22 points in total – 16 for a win, three batting bonus points and three bowling bonus points.
