Trai Hume signs new Sunderland contract following stellar season

Trai Hume’s stellar season for Sunderland has been rewarded with a new contract.

The Northern Ireland defender has agreed a new deal until the summer of 2027 with an option for a further year.

Hume made 34 appearances for the Black Cats last season, with his performances earning him a place on the whoscored.com Championship Team of the Season, as well as twice being named in the Championship Team of the Week.

Sunderland said: “After an outstanding season in the Sky Bet Championship, the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international has signed a new deal until summer 2027 with an option for a further year.

“The defender, who is comfortable playing at right-back or centre-back, made the switch to Wearside in January 2022 from NIFL Premiership side Linfield.

“He then helped the Lads secure promotion from League One before claiming his first senior international cap later in the summer.

“Under Tony Mowbray, Hume has been a mainstay in the side during the second half of the campaign as the Club secured a sixth-placed finish.
