Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Ballots for May 15-21
Welcome to the fifth installment of the 2022-23 spring season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.
This week, and every week during the spring sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete.

How do I cast my vote?
All voting is through the two ballots at burlingtonfreepress.com. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.
Voting began Monday, May 22, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
How do we learn who wins?
The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

Karsyn Bellomo, Rutland lacrosse: After a five-goal game in the senior day win over Middlebury, Bellomo ran up a six-goal outburst in Rutland’s triumph over Brattleboro.
Julia Biedermann, Stowe tennis: Biedermann bested defending state champion Bea Molson of Mount Mansfield in a pro-set (9-7) and also won another singles match last week, to keep her undefeated season intact for the Stowe program.
Mazie Bourgeois, Oxbow softball: The freshman went 3-for-5 with a triple, home run and three RBIs in a 24-2 win over Lamoille. She also added a trio of RBIs in a 2-for-3 day as the the Olympians (13-0) rolled over Lake Region 23-5.
Clara Margulius, South Burlington Ultimate: The senior captain racked up nine goals and six assists last week. She had four goals and two assists vs. Champlain Valley, two goals and two assists vs. Mount Mansfield and then a three-goal, two-assist effort vs. Burr and Burton. Margulius currently is tied for the team lead in goals (17) and second in assists (18) with one game left in the regular season.
Sierra Yates, BFA-St. Albans softball: The senior ace tossed a one-hitter over six innings with 12 strikeouts in a 17-0 win over Colchester. Then in a rematch of last year’s Division I title game vs. South Burlington, Yates homered and also tossed a complete game three-hitter with 12Ks and two earned runs allowed in the 9-2 BFA triumph.

Henry Anderson, Mount Abraham/Vergennes lacrosse: The senior racked up 10 goals and seven assists across three victories last week. He had two goals and an assist vs. Burlington, three goals and four assists vs. Milton and then a five-goal, two-assist game vs. BFA-Fairfax. Anderson also reached a milestone last week netting his 100th career goal.
Tommy Colman, Rice lacrosse: The junior goalie rolled up 19 saves in Rice’s big, 5-4 win over reigning Division I champion Champlain Valley. He also stopped seven shots in the Green Knights’ 11-7 decision over MMU.
Bo Graves, Stowe tennis: Graves captured a trio of No. 1 singles matches last week, earning a three-set win with a long, decisive tiebreaker vs. MMU before posting straight-set triumphs vs. CVU and Rice, respectively.
Alexander Johnson, Essex track and field: The sophomore swept the throwing events at the annual NVAC Metro freshman/sophomore championships at Essex. His shot put (51-4.5) and discus (120-6.75) performances were personal-bests while he won javelin with a heave of 119-2.25.
Travis Stroh, Champlain Valley baseball: Stroh went 5-for-12 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs across a trio of Redhawk victories. His week also included two innings of relief to pick up the 4-3, extra-inning decision over Rice.
