Venue of the Month: The Loco Klub

Venue of the Month: The Loco Klub

The Loco Klub is an underground arts, music and theatre venue.

A joint venture with the Invisible Circus; they aim to be a collaborative, cultural hub for a creative city, celebrating community, diversity and the power of the arts.

Hidden in the former Ash Pits of Brunel’s original station at Bristol Temple Meads and making use of the historic Railway workers social club, the venue’s tunnels and victorian style lend themselves to an atmospheric location for a variety of happenings.

The venue hosts a range of events; from immersive theatre and industry talks, to operas, orchestras and cabarets, to film shoots and music videos, club nights and gala dinners.

The first sex positive festival returned to the South West earlier this year and was hosted at The Loco Klub and Boomtown Festival will be hosting a huge Pride fundraiser next month at the venue as well.

Enshrouded in the mysterious shadows of our city’s past and illuminated by the creative potentials of its future, The Loco Klub sets the scene for some of Bristol’s most groundbreaking, intimate and curious live event experiences.

The venue is now hosting a monthly in-house Quiz called ‘Mr Teds’ Pub Quiz’ which is a pub quiz meets debaucherous performance, dancing and entertainment.

Held on the first Thursday of every month, it is hosted by Mr Teds (a drag performer with a passion for getting messy with crafts) and you can expect pom-poms, foil, ridiculous outfits and hands-on quiz rounds and free shots.

The Loco Klub also provide a safe environment for Queer party makers to flourish; they were the debut venue for ‘The House Of Savalon’, the in-house home of ‘QUEERKY’, and have worked with a host of other Queer event series such as ‘Conqueer’ and ‘Bitch, Please!’.

The team are also looking to help shape and contribute to the Bristol Theatre scene by programming alternative underground theatre and absurdist shows such as the upcoming BUTCHERED which will take place on July 14 and 15.

The atmosphere of the stages in the underground tunnels brings a truly unique setting to dark and mysterious shows and worked really effectively during Trainspotting Live UK.

The team at The Loco Klub said: “This is something we’re looking forward to immersing ourselves in further in the future, with such a talented and welcoming theatrical local scene in Bristol.”

The venue also received funding through The Music Venue Trust’s Pipeline Investment Fund earlier this year. The money was used to install a new accessible toilet at our venue.

It’s a great spot to dance to dub and garage music until 4am with Bristol’s best sound system providers, and also a great spot to listen to an orchestra echo through the historic tunnels.
