Vote now for the Record Athlete of the Week (May 21-27)

Here are the candidates for May 21-27 (athletes listed in alphabetical order):

  • Aiydan Bauge, track and field, Venture Academy: Bauge represented Venture Academy at the 2023 CIF State Track and Field Championship in the high jump event. The senior took on the top jumpers and finished fourth jumping for 6’6. This is the second highest jump in the entire state.
  • Kharmie “Mims” Caratachea, softball, Ripon: Caratachea was toeing the slab for the Indians in their Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 semifinals against Capital Christian on May 23. The junior wracked up six Ks and did her best to limit the Cougars hot bats. While it wasn’t enough to beat Capital Christian, Caratachea ended the season as the top pitcher in that Trans Valley League.
  • Kori Fields, track and field, St. Mary’s: Fields was among the many athletes from St. Mary’s to advance to the state track meet on May 26-27. The senior hurdler found her way to the top of the podium in the 100 meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 13.79 seconds to take home gold.
  • Galadriel Mellion, track and field, Weston Ranch: Mellion represented Weston Ranch at the state track meet as a well known thrower in the 209. The Arizona State-bound senior finished either fifth place or higher in all the events she competed in. She finished fifth in the finals for shot put and discus.
  • Legend Moore, track and field, St. Mary’s: Moore was a force for the Rams in the CIF State Track and Field Championships. The junior competed in the high jump event against 10 other top jumpers in California. Moore finished third in the finals with a 6’6, the second highest jump in the entire state. Due to tiebreaker jumps he beat out Bauge for third place.
  • Grant Sonke, baseball, Ripon Christian: Sonke played a vital role in Ripon Chrisitan’s SJS Division 7 championship game against Turlock Christian. Sonke finished the game with two runs, a hit and an RBI to help the Knights win 11-3 on May 23. He also led his team with stolen bases, three in the blue banner victory.
