Walker and Khalid’s last-wicket heroics earn NSSCL Division Four win for Onneley

Onneley’s Darren Walker and Mohammed Khalid produced a fine last-wicket stand to deny Hanford a first NSSCL Division Four win of the season.

Hanford, the only club in the division without a victory, looked set to break their duck after reducing the home side to 159-9 in pursuit of their 202-run target.

But in the nick of time, Walker (19no) and Khalid (26no) joined forces to secure a dramatic one-wicket win for Onneley.

Harry Leath (51) and Dan Hall (40) had earlier impressed for Onneley, but Syed Haider Bukhari’s 3-23 and double strikes from Bassit Mahmood and Adeel Khalid pushed Hanford close to victory.

Earlier in the day, Bukhari’s 64 was supported by Abu Sayeed Jamil’s unbeaten 34 and Adeel Mahmood’s 28 as they posted 201 all out.

Sohail Hussain captured 3-31, while Khalid (3-14) wrapped up the innings with a hat-trick before helping Walker to turn the tide with the bat.

Leaders Audley seconds suffered their first league defeat of the season after losing at Eccleshall seconds.

Eccleshall put themselves in a strong position by racking up 224-4 from their allocation in the first part of the afternoon.

Dave Ecclestone hit 11 fours in his 67, with Dan Lakin not far behind in the scoring stakes with an unbeaten 55. He hit five boundaries and two sixes.

James Dale (34no), Tom Boulton (23) and Karl Mason (22) were also in fine fettle. Matthew Hammersley struck twice.

Amal Mohanan (55) and James Rogers (38) fronted Audley’s reply, but Lakin’s 4-21, plus two wickets from Deklan Binnington left Eccleshall all out for 181.

Crewe are in second place, 11 points off the top, after winning at Bignall End seconds.

The Cheshire visitors were in excellent form with the bat as they piled up 219-2 from their 40 overs.

Lewis Bacon led the way with 83, aided by half-centuries from Ollie Jarvis (62no) and Tate Rutter (60no).

Bignall End made a decent effort of chasing down that total as James Platt compiled 67 and Ian Lewis added 34.

But Frazier Hoye’s 5-28 left Bignall End all out for 174, with Bailey Sant chipping in with two wickets.

Tom Timmis struck a ton in Porthill Park thirds’ win at Burslem seconds.

Timmis hit 15 fours and two sixes in his 112 to form the backbone of Porthill Park’s formidable;e 246-7 from their allocation.

Auyush Deshpande (45) lent valuable support, with six wickets being shared by Logan Hughes, Hashim Rabi Ahmed and Adam Ainsworth.

Chris Lowndes’ 61 and 54 from Michael Rowley kept Burslem interested in potentially knocking off that stiff target.

However, it wasn’t to be as Harry Stubbs’ 3-17 and two wickets apiece from Sam Barker and Esa Mohamed left them all out for 170.

Leek made home advantage count to ease past the challenge of Norton in Hales seconds.

Leek seconds posted 192-4 in the first part of the afternoon thanks to half-centuries from Joshua Woodcock and Ebony Tweats.

Woodcock hit nine fours and one six in his 74 not out, with Tweats’ 55 containing six boundaries. Tom Grindey chipped in with 23.

Norton in Hales saw Charlie Belfield and Toby Egerton make 28 and 25 respectively.

However, they were the only decent contributions as Norton in Hales were skittled for 92.

Youngster Archie Bunn was in excellent form on his way to 3-21, while Brad Grindey helped himself to 3-30.

Moddershall & Oulton fourths claimed an impressive home victory over Hem Heath thirds.

Annesly Kumar-Benedict constructed 56, including eight fours and one six, to guide the Modd men to 163 all out.

James Mason made 25, with Stephen Pugh (4-10) and Jack Jones (3-29) leading the visitors’ bowling effort.

Darren Plant top-scored with 20 in reply – and although several other batsmen made starts, Hem Heath were dismissed for 127.

Tyler Greatrex captured 3-20, Joseph Walley scooped 3-21 and there were two wickets for Don Halahakone.
