This is the shocking moment a couple bought a meal at a Thai restaurant in Brighton before leaving without paying their £38.90 bill.

The unnamed duo dined at Thai restaurant Sawadee in East Sussex earlier this month, where they decided to skip the bill.

Footage, captured on CCTV, begins with the pair being welcomed into the restaurant and directed to a seat near the window.

It then fast forwards to the waiter delivering the food after the couple ordered the set menu for two.

The pair are then seen chatting and seemingly enjoying their food as more customers come and go.

But something soon appears odd when they begin looking around them several times to check whether staff are watching.

The woman then packs her possessions up and walks out of the front door while the man, looking more concerned, double checks behind him before leaving.

The two then run out of the front door and head across the road.

The restaurant also has cameras on the outside of the building, meaning they managed to capture the couple sprinting down their escape route on the side street.

Another angle overlooking the entrance shows the same waiter coming outside in a pointless attempt to locate the pair, as he looks baffled by their actions.

The video was posted to social media by the restaurant on Saturday, where it has received over 32,000 likes and more than 1,100 comments.

A third said: ‘That’s so embarrassing.’

Another commented: ‘Sat by the door for a reason.’

A fifth replied: ‘Can you imagine having a criminal record for this?’

Speaking today, Sawadee’s restaurant owner said: ‘First starters were served and when finished, the main course was served.

‘It was a very hot sunny day in Brighton, we were working in the kitchen and didn’t have a clue until the server asked if we had seen the customers.

‘We found out after checking the cameras what happened.

‘After three or four days we had a young waiter starting work with us, and he actually edited the video and put it online.

‘We are surprised by the number of viewers and support, we received phone call and text messages from people who know them – however our intention is not to report to the police or catch them.

‘We of course don’t want them to keep doing it to other businesses.

‘Sawadee Brighton is a small Thai restaurant in Kemptown, Brighton established for 22 years so we got very upset at first, then we thought of making a video so that they can’t get away with it.’.
