We reviewed Cockermouth’s top rated café and felt right at home

Going for a meal on your own, wether that is to a restaurant, cafe, or coffee shop, can seem very dautning.

But a bit of self-care is definitely worth it. If you’re not used to going out and dining by yourself, I’d suggest starting small and working your way up.

In Cockermouth, VeeVa is rated as one of the best cafes to go to and is said to have a welcoming atmosphere. We just had to pop along and see if the reviews were true.

I’ve gotten used to going out and dining by myself, however, I still remember the first time stepping through the door and asking for a table for one.

You feel like all eyes are on you, but in reality, they aren’t. As soon as I worked through the door at this Cockermouth cafe I was greeted with a smile.

I opted to go for brunch, in between some work I was doing in the town, I’m a big fan of breakfast so brunch was a great choice to try. As I sat down and was handed a menu, I was stuck between going for a full breakfast or the avocado on toast.

Deciding I don’t actually have avocado that much I opted for that and, of course, a trusty coffee. It didn’t take long for my food to arrive and when it did, it was piping hot.

The toast was toasted to my liking, not burned but also not warm bread with smooth avocado, runny poached eggs and crispy bacon. I really was satisfied with the food I’d had.

What made it even better was the red onion chutney on the bottom, this added a sweetness I never knew this meal needed.

It was bursting with flavour and after looking at the menu again, I had to tell myself no, from getting a milkshake. However, I was naughty and had some of the chocolate chip brioche bread with warm Nutella.

It was warm, crispy and sweet and definitely gave me my chocolate fix for the week. I’d go back for this alone. The cafe was full of people going about their normal day and when I tell you all the food looked lovely, I’m not kidding.

I can’t wait to go back and try something else. I don’t think it will take me long to head back again. It’s safe to say the Station Road establishment lived up to the reviews left on TripAdvisor where it is the number one rated place for quick bites in Cockermouth.

A third person said: “Fantastic food and service. Had breakfast here for three mornings as part of a hotel stay. The menu is fantastic, all good fresh and excellent quality. Staff are all fantastic and very friendly, bought take away scones and cake on our last morning which were superb.”
