We simulated Man City vs Man United to get a score prediction for FA Cup final

A third Manchester derby of the season will commence at Wembley on Saturday as Man City and Man United battle it out for the FA Cup trophy.

Both City and United will be looking to win their second trophy of the season, with the FA Cup final falling in between Premier League success and a Champions League final for Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to win the treble. Victory on Saturday for United would make it a very successful first season for Erik ten Hag, with a top-four finish in the league and the Carabao Cup already secured.

City beat Sheffield United 3-0 whilst United went all the way to penalties against Brighton to book their spots in the final. Both sides have beaten each other once this season, with the last meeting seeing United come from behind to beat City 2-1 at Old Trafford in the league.

So, who could emerge as FA Cup winners on Saturday? We simulated the clash to find out how it went. To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that City could set up in a 3-2-4-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Ortega; Walker, Dias, Ake; Stones, Rodri; Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland.

We predict that United could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred, Eriksen; Fernandes, Rashford, Sancho.

Maybe having one eye on the Champions League final next week, City started slow, and United took full advantage as they raced into a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes at Wembley. The first goal came courtesy of Christian Eriksen, with a blocked shot falling to the midfielder just outside the box who placed the ball into the far corner of the net.

Four minutes later, United made it two as Fernandes capitalised on his side’s momentum to double the lead. Aaron Wan-Bissaka raced down the right before pulling the ball back to Fernandes in the middle, and the United captain’s shot deflected off the leg of Ruben Dias to fly past Stefan Ortega in goal.

With a mountain to climb, City took control of the game after going behind, and after a period of sustained pressure, Guardiola’s side scored either side of half-time to draw level in a thrilling game. In the 39th minute, David De Gea palmed Jack Grealish’s strike into Kyle Walker who lifted the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

And just after the restart, Erling Haaland pulled his side level with an incredible strike. Rodri picked out the bursting run of the striker with a lofted ball over the top of the United defence, and on the half-volley, the Norwegian acrobatically fired past De Gea to make it 2-2.

City were dominating every aspect of the game, with United suffocated to their own half as their rivals peppered their goal with shots. Kevin De Bruyne struck the crossbar in the 83rd minute with a long-range effort, but with two minutes remaining, the Belgian notched the winner.

After finding the feet of Haaland 25 yards from goal, De Bruyne burst past the striker on the overlap as he received a return pass to surge through on goal. The Belgian breezed past Victor Lindelof before blasting a powerful strike across goal to make it 3-2 and win the FA Cup.
