‘Welcoming’ Batley school hailed as ‘Good’ by Ofsted as pupils prepare for visit from West Yorkshire mayor

A Batley junior school continues to be a ‘Good’ school, with the Mayor of West Yorkshire to visit later this week.

Staincliffe Junior School had its latest Ofsted inspection in March which confirmed that it is still of good standard. When a school receives a good or outstanding rating, it has an inspection around every four years to check that standards are being maintained.

This is the case for Staincliffe with Ofsted describing the school as “welcoming” and “friendly.” The report continues: “The school ethos is firmly grounded in the values of respect, trust, courage and joy…

“Leaders, governors and staff have high expectations for every pupil. This includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils’ behaviour in lessons is excellent. They try hard and are proud of their work.”

Staff are said to handle rare cases where students’ behaviour isn’t up to usual standards effectively. Other areas where staff excel are in teaching a broad curriculum, helping pupils make up any gaps in their knowledge and making adaptations for pupils with SEND.

Ofsted identified just one area of improvement for the school. They say: “In a small number of subjects, teachers do not consistently plan activities and work that match the curriculum well enough,” and go on to explain how this can be rectified.
