‘Welcoming’ Batley school hailed as ‘Good’ by Ofsted as pupils prepare for visit from West Yorkshire mayor
A Batley junior school continues to be a ‘Good’ school, with the Mayor of West Yorkshire to visit later this week.
Staincliffe Junior School had its latest Ofsted inspection in March which confirmed that it is still of good standard. When a school receives a good or outstanding rating, it has an inspection around every four years to check that standards are being maintained.

“Leaders, governors and staff have high expectations for every pupil. This includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils’ behaviour in lessons is excellent. They try hard and are proud of their work.”
Staff are said to handle rare cases where students’ behaviour isn’t up to usual standards effectively. Other areas where staff excel are in teaching a broad curriculum, helping pupils make up any gaps in their knowledge and making adaptations for pupils with SEND.
Ofsted identified just one area of improvement for the school. They say: “In a small number of subjects, teachers do not consistently plan activities and work that match the curriculum well enough,” and go on to explain how this can be rectified.
This week, Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin will be visiting the school to see the work that’s been done in training parents and carers to be ‘Reading Friends.’ The training seeks to improve fluency and engagement in reading.
Headteacher, Mr Dixon, said: “We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from the inspector, who visited our school for our Ofsted inspection back in March. It was a very proud moment to be able to share with the whole school community the successes of all of their hard work, which truly reflected the sense of team we have here at Staincliffe CE Junior School.
“The children, as always, were fabulous, and their behaviour and attitudes to learning, and each other, were rightly praised during the inspection. The hard work and dedication of all of the staff and guidance from the governors was also recognised, following what has been some of the most testing times in education over the last three years.
“We have brilliant parents and carers here at Staincliffe who really do support us in all that we do. We know we’re still on a journey and are continually seeking to make improvements for all of our children and their families, but the Ofsted report confirms what we all believed – Staincliffe CE Junior School is a great place to be!”
