West Lothian pub row escalated when drunken mum tried to ‘act as peacemaker’
A pub row escalated dramatically when a drunken mum of two tried to act as peacemaker, a court heard.
Jayde McFarlane stood between Stuart McKie and Greig Brown as they argued and pushed one another after watching a football match in a West Lothian bar.
Without warning she suddenly threw the glass she had been holding while she tried to reason with the pair and defuse the situation.

The glass struck Mr McKie’s drinking companion Samantha Mushet on the head, smashing on impact, prosecutor Morgan Beattie told Livingston Sheriff Court.
Miss Beattie said: “Samantha Mushet was bleeding heavily from her injury and the parties were ejected from the pub.
“An investigation took place which required police analysing CCTV footage. It was found that Miss McFarlane was responsible for throwing the glass.”
She said Miss Mushet sustained a two-inch laceration just above her right eye. She was treated at an accident and emergency department where the wound was cleaned and closed with Steristrips.
McFarlane, 36, from Blackburn, West Lothian, appeared for sentence after earlier pleading guilty to assaulting Miss Mushet to her severe injury in Coppies Bar, Armadale, on 21 May 2022 while on bail.

The prosecution accepted her plea on the basis that the glass attack had not permanently disfigured her victim.
James Walker, defending, said McFarlane’s recollection of the incident was “hazy at best” largely due to her significant level of intoxication.
“Regardless of that she takes full responsibility for what happened and she shows nothing but remorse. She has been tearful on occasions and has taken the matter extremely seriously. This has had a significant impact on her mental health.
“She’s deeply remorseful and ashamed that she conducted herself in this way.”
Passing sentence, Sheriff Susan Craig told McFarlane: “Obviously this is a very serious matter and the court has to reflect that in its disposal.”
As McFarlane dabbed away tears, the sheriff sentenced her to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work within six months.
She imposed a restriction of liberty order which requires McFarlane to remain in her home between 7pm and 7am the following morning for 163 days.
