Western United NPL Weekly Wrap and Up Next

Over the weekend, the academy teams of Western United embarked on away journeys, with our senior team playing on Dandenong’s home turf and our juniors competing in Carnegie. Meanwhile, Calder United’s senior and U19 teams faced the challenge of Preston Lions, while their juniors battled it out against Box Hill on their own turf.

Western United NPL 2 Men’s Senior’s

Western United 2-0 Dandenong City SC

Goal scorer: L.Byrns (50’, 61’)

Following a draw last week, our senior team was determined to return home with three points.

In an exhilarating match featuring two remarkable goals, our side achieved exactly that. After a challenging first half, the team aimed to find the back of the net in the second.

Byrns worked his magic just five minutes into the second half, and astonishingly, repeated eleven minutes later.

Having experienced the end of their winning streak last week, United’s side savoured a well-deserved 2-0 victory on Dandenong’s home turf.

Western United NPL 2 Men’s Under 21’s

Western United 1-1 Dandenong City SC

Goal scorer: A.Iedom (88’)

Following a draw against Preston Lions last week, the U21s engaged in a fierce battle in Dandenong with hopes of securing three points before returning home.

The match ignited when Ahmed Iedom skilfully struck the ball into the net during the 88th minute. Despite their relentless efforts, the team couldn’t find another goal to claim victory, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw.

Western United Junior Academy teams

Over the weekend, the junior squads of Western United set off on a venture to Glen Eira FC’s home turf.

The U14s started the day at Lord Reserve on Sunday the 18th at 9:30 am. Excitement sparked towards the end of the first half when Abraha scored a goal, followed by Ashburner finding the net within the first five minutes of the second half, instilling hope. Despite putting up a valiant fight, the team couldn’t secure the three points, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

The U15s had an astonishing match that came alive in the third minute with a goal from Laban. Ashburner, playing his second match of the day, scored again in the 31st minute. The team sealed the victory with two more fantastic goals from Yohannes and Alumbulwa.

The U16s had a tight battle against Glen Eira FC, ultimately securing a 1-0 win thanks to Robinson’s goal in the fifteenth minute. The team made great efforts to prevent the opposing team from scoring.

Following the U16s’ narrow victory, the U18s dominated their opponents with an incredible 5-2 win. Marmura scored an early goal and added another impressive one in the 90th minute. Nelson-Higgins made it 2-0 in the first half. Just eleven minutes after Marmura’s goal, Dermentzoglou delivered two extraordinary goals within two minutes.

Calder United NPLW Senior’s

Calder United 2-1 Preston Lions

Following their impressive 5-0 triumph over Alamein FC last week, the Calder girls were geared up to face Preston Lions. Enjoying the advantage of playing at home, the team aimed to secure three points.

In a challenging contest, Calder’s captain, Ava Groba, displayed her skill by scoring two incredible goals, leading her team to a well-deserved 2-1 victory.

This win positions them in fifth place on the ladder, trailing behind Bayside United FC and seven points from the top.

Calder United Under 19’s

Calder United 6-2 Preston Lions

Goal scorers: O.Anderson (2’), F.Iaria (7’), M.Daskalovska (20’), S.Cappola (50’), I.Greer (54’, 65’)

Over the weekend, the U19s Calder United side showcased their brilliance with an impressive 6-2 victory over Preston Lions. After a draw of 1-1 in the previous week, the team was determined to claim all three points, and they did not disappoint.

The excitement ignited just two minutes into the match when Olivia scored a beautiful goal. Five minutes later, Iaria found the back of the net as well. As the second half drew to a close, Calder secured three more goals, with Dakalovska adding another at the 20-minute mark.

Five minutes into the second half, Cappola contributed to the team’s goal tally, while Greer sealed the victory with two more goals at the 54th and 65th minute. This well-deserved win highlights the exceptional performance of the Calder United U19s.

Calder United junior girls

Calder United’s junior teams made it a perfect weekend for the club with three convincing wins over Box Hill United FC on Saturday.

The Under 13s kicked it off with a fantastic 1-0 win, courtesy of a brace from Achol Taban, who now boasts a total of 16 goals for the season.

In an incredible display, the U15s emerged triumphant with a commanding 4-0 victory, successfully keeping the opposition from scoring.

Maintaining their winning streak, the U17s triumphed over Box Hill United FC with a convincing 4-1 scoreline. Notably, standout Calder players C. Stefanovski, Todorova, and Dedalija delivered exceptional goals, contributing significantly to their team’s success.
