Woman dead and boy, 1, fighting for life after car with five people in crashes on M40

A WOMAN is dead and a one-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a horror smash.

Police raced to the M40 motorway in Oxfordshire this morning after reports of the crash and discovered the tragic scene.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman an one-year-old boy were rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The M40 was closed for most of the day while police worked at the scene to establish what happened.

The incident involved just the grey Nissan Qashqai, which left the carriageway between Bicester and Cherwell Valley Services and went into a ditch at speed.

Thames Valley Police said: “A woman, who is in her 60s, died at the scene of a crash shortly before 9.10am.

“There were five occupants in the vehicle.

“Two other people, a one-year-old boy and a woman aged in her 30s have been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where they remain with life-threatening injuries.

“Two others, a man aged in his 30s and a girl aged two years, sustained less serious injuries and are also at the John Radcliffe Hospital.”

Senior investigating officer, Sergeant Dominic Mahon of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am appealing to anybody who was driving on the M40 at around the time of this collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police if you have witnessed this incident.

“I’d also ask anybody who was on the M40 between junctions 9 and 10 who has dash-cam to please check this and get in touch if it has captured the collision or the moments leading up to it.”
