Another fine Alex Williams knock sees Tunbridge Wells beat Hayes in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division; Bexley, Blackheath, Lordswood and Sevenoaks Vine also victorious

Another fine Alex Williams knock helped to ensure Tunbridge Wells won at home to reigning Kent League Premier Division champions Hayes on Saturday.

Set a target of 280, a 70-ball 71 not out from Alex Williams – fresh from a ton the previous weekend – saw the hosts over the line in the 47th over after a 96-ball 108 by opener Chris Williams had got them going amid a 136-run opening stand with Christian Davis (43).

Finlay Baker (2-30) and Scott Gallagher (2-59) were best with the ball for Hayes.

Earlier, William MacVicar’s unbeaten 128 had set Hayes on their way to 279-4 from their 50 overs.

The home team shared the wickets around, with David Smith (1-29) most economical.

St Lawrence & Highland Court missed all-rounder Darren Stevens’ presence in their seven-wicket loss at home to Sevenoaks Vine.

Batting first, Michael Hales Jr (35), supported by opener Harry Wren’s quickfire 25, helped them reach 139 all out after 30 overs while Australian overseas Jack Heuston (23) also chipped in.

Sahil Shah (6-24) was the pick of the away bowlers.

John Grewar’s 2-7 wasn’t enough for St Lawrence as Sevenoaks skipper Luke Schlemmer (61 not out) saw them to victory inside 24 overs.

Lordswood won by four wickets at Sandwich Town.

Tom Burnap (60 not out) helped get the hosts to a competitive 171 all out in the 41st over, with Scotland international Calum MacLeod (7-32) shining for Lordswood.

Wicketkeeper Max Wood’s unbeaten 59 then saw them home despite another tidy display with the ball by Sandwich skipper Jan Gray (2-38).

Early frontrunners Bexley beat Minster by four wickets.

Pakistan overseas Ahmed Jamal’s 5-37 restricted Minster to 234-9 from 50 overs. Openers James Thompson (43) and James Hockley (41), along with Laurie Evans (42), top scoring.

Bexley lost their first wicket without score, only for the home team to recover well and, after wicketkeeper Ben Aldred’s 87, they won in the 41st over.

Opening bowler Bill Prideaux (3-52) and Joseph Parry (2-28) were the pick of the bunch for Minster.

Blackheath claimed a six-wicket triumph against Holmesdale.

Batting first, opener Ollie Chaplin (54) and Dom May (44) ensured Holmesdale reached 163 all out, Tejpal Birdi (3-36) and Matthew Golding (3-39) among the wickets.

The game looked evenly-poised with Blackheath 93-4 when Matthew Golding (67 not out) and captain Charlie-Sid Speller (24 not out) came together and saw them across the line in the 42nd over with an unbroken 71-run partnership.
