Boy in ‘critical condition’ after being struck by HGV on A66 at Penrith

A boy is in a ‘critical condition’ after being airlifted to hospital following a serious crash.

The incident happened on the A66 at Penrith at 12.41pm yesterday (June 14). Emergency services rushed to the scene on the eastbound carriageway between junction 40 of the M6 and Kemplay Bank roundabout.

The road was closed with motorists urged to avoid the area. Cumbria Police today confirmed that collision involved a HGV and a 17-year-old male pedestrian.

The boy, from Penrith, was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a ‘critical condition’. Officers investigating the serious collision are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

In a statement, Cumbria Police said: “Officers investigating a serious collision on the A66 at Penrith are appealing for witnesses. At 12:41pm yesterday (14 June), officers received a report of a collision on the A66 eastbound carriageway between junction 40 of the M6 and Kemplay Bank roundabout.

“The collision involved a HGV and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 17-year-old boy from Penrith, was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition.
