Cancer sufferer baffles doctors with fight against rare condition without chemo

A cancer sufferer has left doctors baffled – with how well is battling a rare form of the disease despite having no treatment. Luke Goodwin was diagnosed after suddenly falling ill and was told he may only have a year to live.

But he has turned his life around and is hoping to raise awareness. He was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma and people have told him he looks better with the disease than he did before his diagnosis.

The condition targets sufferers’ supporting or connective body tissues, like muscles, fat, nerves, blood vessels, bone and cartilage. It starts from cells in a type of muscle tissue called smooth muscle and can start anywhere in the body.

Around 600 people are diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma in the UK each year and it usually develops in adults, particularly in older people, with most sufferers being over the age of 50.

As reported by our sister title, Grimsby Live, the Grimsby man is planning to holding a car meet in the East Lincolnshire town to both raise awareness of his own condition and pay tribute to a tragic pal.

His close friend Bob who passed away from cancer last year. Luke is now using other methods to combat his illness rather than traditional forms of treatment.

He said: “On Sunday, 25 June, we will be hosting a car meet at the Grimsby Auditorium car park from about 12pm to help raise awareness and to honour my friend Bob who passed away from it last year.
