Chelsea target’s stance on leaving Barcelona

Chelsea target’s stance on leaving Barcelona

Ousmane Dembele has now set his stance on any exit from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. Chelsea and Newcastle United are interested in signing the winger.

That is according to Sport, which reports that Dembele is not even willing to listen to offers to leave Barcelona. The Frenchman is also yet to speak with any potential suitor over a deal for this summer. His aim is to stay at Camp Nou as the winger is very comfortable with Xavi.

Dembele also hopes to challenge for the Champions League title with Barcelona next term after winning La Liga this season. It is his third Spanish top-flight title with the Catalan club. But the 26-year-old is still yet to taste continental success since his transfer in August 2017.

Ousmane Dembele sets his stance on any exit from Barcelona

Barcelona paid Borussia Dortmund £97m, rising to £135.5m with add-ons, to sign Dembele six years ago. He has since helped the Blaugrana lift both the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup twice. While his five goals and five assists aided his third La Liga title this season.

But some clubs have started to take stock of Dembele’s situation at Barcelona ahead of the next transfer window. The winger will only have a year remaining on the two-year contract extension he agreed to last summer. His deal also features a €50m (£43.5m) release clause.

Yet Dembele has set his stance on staying at Barcelona against renewed interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The winger’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, is also in talks with Blaugrana sporting director Mateu Alemany for a new contract. The pair are specifically handling an extension.

Chelsea and Newcastle are interested in the forward’s transfer

Dembele’s stance being on staying at Barcelona will also disappoint Chelsea and Newcastle ahead of the next transfer window. 90min reported in April that the Blues remain keen on a deal after missing out last year. Newcastle have also had brief contact with his entourage.

Newcastle used Dembele’s surprise visit to Sunderland’s Championship game with Sheffield United in March to hold brief talks with the Barcelona forward’s camp. The winger, who Ian Wright called ‘absolutely amazing’ during the 2022 World Cup, was out injured at the time.

Xavi was without Dembele for 13 La Liga games from February to April due to his hamstring injury. Yet Chelsea and Newcastle’s interest in Dembele’s transfer from Barcelona emerged.
