Drunk knifeman filmed himself stabbing man in Chesterfield home then boasted about it to taxi driver

A heavily-convicted criminal, whose sister was murdered in 2016, filmed himself repeatedly slashing a man with a knife in the victim’s own home. Shocking mobile phone footage taken by Andrew Stevens showed the 41-year-old threatening the man who repeatedly begs him to stop saying “please don’t Andrew” and “you’ve cut me up”.

Derby Crown Court heard how the defendant then caught a taxi from the address and told the cabbie “I have just stabbed him, what would you have done, he’s been messaging my girl”. But when he told the driver to pull over while he used a cashpoint machine, the cabbie drove off and called 999.

Jailing Stevens for two years and three months, Judge Shaun Smith KC said: “This was a particularly awful offence, it was recorded on your phone and so I have been able to see the measure of panic and, I imagine terror, you imposed on the victim. Thankfully, the injuries were not of the most serious type (but) you were under the influence of alcohol and it was committed in the victim’s own home.

“I have read about the personal trauma you have suffered and I will say what it is as people will ask, but your sister was murdered.” Lauren Fisher, prosecuting, said the incident took place at the victim’s address in Loundsley Green, Chesterfield, in the early hours of October 24, last year.

He showed footage of the assault filmed by the defendant on his mobile phone. On it, Stevens can be seen using the knife to slash at the victim’s hands as he cries back words including “Please don’t Andrew, I thought we were friends?” and “I am sorry Andrew”.

Slurring his words, Stevens can then be heard saying “We are friends but don’t say that again” and “if you say that again I will stab you in the eyes”.
