First Saliva Pregnancy Test Goes On Sale

Israeli biotechnology company Salignostics has brought to market the first saliva pregnancy test, which is already available in the United Kingdom at a price of £9.99 (around 11.60 euros) and is expected to be commercialized for the rest of Europe in the coming months.

The novel test, called the ‘Salistic’, involves soaking a stick with saliva, designed to detect the pregnancy hormone beta-hCG, until the handle turns blue and waiting 10 minutes. On the other hand, it is necessary to wait for half an hour after eating or drinking to get the test done.

Like traditional pregnancy tests, two red lines will appear on the screen to indicate pregnancy or, conversely, one line if the person is not pregnant.

As reported by Salignostics, it is effective from “the first day of missed period” for “early detection of pregnancy”.

This new method has gone through various tests before being brought to market and Abingdon Health, the company in charge of commercializing it in the United Kingdom and Ireland, assures that it has been “tested extensively against many known negative and positive samples”. ” And it has been found to give very few false positives.”
